Over the weekend I took a class with the ever talented and oooh so patient Colleen Moody at Kim Caldwell's lovely studio in Culver City.
The project was a gorgeous doll named the Treasure Keeper. The sample was to die for!!
This was a 2 day class and believe it or not it starts with tin foil!!
Which eventually gets you to this point of alien looking-ness once you start forming and shaping the paper clay.
I am not going to lie I was not "seeing the forest through the trees" at this point lol
Then she got a little face. Also not going to lie I only did the whites of the eyes (later) and the lips. Seems I may have a "heavy hand" when it comes to the finer details of things. Needless to say Colleen was gracious enough to give her a brow wax and I called it a day:)
I am going to be real honest now. At this point I was DONE:) The drawers had been painted and sanded and she was pretty much ready for assembly and dressing (the best part). But I sat there looking at all my fabrics in my lap and thought to myself....self you are not ready for this:) Then I went home and had a glass of wine!!
So I have been working on her all week.
First her bodice.
Then her bonnet which was NOT fun at all and I am not particularly happy with it but I am not doing it again so it's perfect;) *Sorry for the blurry picture
Then played around with fabrics. I am in love with this pinkish bridal satin so that I decided I'd use as the bulk of her dress. And of course lace!
And as you can see the drawers are out because I changed the color of this dresser three times!! Who knew there were that MANY shades of pink!
Hello layers!!
Makes my heart go pitter patter!!
Making her skirt all come together.....
And then she was complete:)
Meet Gracie the Treasure Keeper
She only took me 6 days lol!!
And now I am on a crafting hiatus for a little while.......
Who am I kidding;)
Be back soon!!
