Leap of Faith

I've thought a lot about how I can sell a few of my pieces.

I think the easiest way would be on Instagram. I will have a picture and description. A description to the best of my ability. Some things I will be winging but I have a pretty good memory still:) I don't know all the names of stones and metals but you'll get the gist. And then the price which will include shipping. Not messing with all that shipping fees stuff. I have a pretty good idea how much it will cost to ship so I just figured it into the price. Of course that is postage for the US only.

This is where it gets a little tricky. I can only take a check or cash. I am not set up for credit cards and I don't want to pay the fees associated with Paypal.

So the first person to write their email address in the comments (on Instagram not Facebook) will have bought the piece. I will then email them my address for payment and I will get their address. I really want to send out your piece as soon as it's sold so I will be pretty much working on the honor system here. I figure most people have good hearts and wouldn't want a rosary that they would have in essence stole if they didn't send me payment. I know I wouldn't want that rosary. Talk about bad karma:/

I don't want to bombard Instagram feeds so starting tonight at 5pm PST I will post my first piece. Then every hour after that until 10pm. So 6 of them today. Yikes this is scary!! I will see how it goes and then decide if there will be any more for sale over the weekend.

To sell or not to sell

That is the question I have had on my mind since last night when I got a beautiful message from my friend, Nicole who asked if I would please consider selling her the rosary I had posted on Instagram.

I have been asked if I sell quite a bit. I always take it as the highest compliment but then shy away from it into the little corner of my mind and say no. Sorry I don't.

The main reason being. It scares the hell out of me. Truth be told. I make things I love, things that hold great personal meaning to me. I put my whole self in all I make. I don't have a warehouse full of stuff. When I am out hunting I take great care when I purchase components. And those components I love!! Just looking at them in a storage container can make me happy. Then when I get that brilliant idea (in my mind anyway:) and make something beautiful well I feel giddy. Whether it be a bracelet, a doll, an assemblage piece or even a simple rosary. It's a piece of me.

With that said.......

What if someone doesn't like it, what if they get and think "oh this looked much better under an Instagram filter." Which let's face it everything does lol!! What if it falls apart. What if someone thinks I copied someone else and spreads hate all over social media. Which I have seen happen and it's ugly!! What if they think they paid too much when they open it. What if no one buys them. All these what if's!!!

Then I think to myself I don't live any other aspect of my life with "what if's" creeping in.

Then I thought why with this?

So guess what........

I sold it:)

Then this morning I looked at it one more time, held those precious beads in my hands and sent it off to it's new owner.

I don't want to lose that love for what art means to me.

I can't mass produce that feeling.

I don't want to!!

But the fact remains I have will have 15 rosaries made by the end of the week and they need homes to grace. My hope is that along with being beautiful maybe they will inspire some to pray the rosary. To count the beads, remember the story and find peace in it. For some it may just be a beautiful reminder of faith. Whatever your reason may be for wanting one know that each is leaving my hands with love.

I have a lot to think about this evening, probably as I am making more and thinking this one is my favorite I can't part with it lol!! I'll come up with some way to sell these. Stay tuned for details:)

Hens, lace, textiles and french fries.......

This weekend I got to go Three Speckled Hens up in Paso Robles California and it was awesome! The deals were incredible! So incredible this is the only picture I got!! And that was as I was walking in at 8am:)

Now that Remnants of the Past has moved way up north, this is a great alternative. Even better the prices were a fraction of the Remnants show. The vendors all did a really great job in their booths. A few of my finds included vintage scales, baby dresses, crocheted tablecloths, a little alarm clock, silver plated tea pot, honey bee crate, mason jars with a crown on them and a Mary. 

My friend Erin was the copilot and fellow french fry eater for the weekend. I think we went through every drive thru McDonalds on the Central Coast. Not that we are proud or anything;)

Hey we had a list of places to conquer so you do what you got to do to stay nourished:)

One of those places had to be the infamous Lina G's in Morro Bay!!

We were very happy!!!! I could just roll around in all that yumminess!!

We made a few other pit stops in San Luis Obispo and Cambria on our 3 day adventure but I think Lina's may have been the most jaw dropping. That store is just incredible. 

On the way home we had a real treat and went to Textiles and Tea. It was put on by the ladies of Summerland Mercantile. Located in the foothils of Carpenteria, just south of Santa Barbara. It was the most lovely home!!! The yard was incredible and the hospitality was amazing. Everything French and everything vintage was for sale. I did get some pictures, all on my phone but I think you'll get it:)

Such a wonderful weekend! And thank you to my friend Erin for listening to me ramble, not judge my garlic bread eating ability, my soda or cookie consumption, only look scared once with my driving skills, letting me go sleep after the Dodger game and in general just being my lace loving, textile buying, french fry eating partner in crime:)
